If you’re 65+ and a New Zealand resident, you don’t have to do anything to get SuperGold card. When you apply for New Zealand Superannuation (NZ Super), you’ll automatically receive a SuperGold card in the mail.
SuperGold is one way the government and New Zealand businesses can say thank you or tēnā rawa atu koe for everything you’ve done for Aotearoa, by raising your family, working, or in the community.
How to get a SuperGold Card:
Work and Income will automatically send you either a:
- SuperGold Card once your NZ Superannuation is approved, or
- Veteran SuperGold Card once your Veteran's Pension is approved.
This usually takes a few weeks. You may have to wait a month or two if you apply for NZ Super or Veteran's Pension before your 65th birthday.
If you don't qualify for NZ Super or Veteran's Pension, you can still apply for a SuperGold Card. There are certain criteria you'll need to meet.
You must be:
- 65+ years old and
- a New Zealand resident.
